Tanzania’s National Wholesale Broadband Backbone

The National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) is Tanzania’s strategic national fibre optic backbone operated by Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL). It provides reliable, high-capacity wholesale connectivity services to mobile network operators, internet service providers, regional carriers, content providers, government institutions and strategic enterprise customers. NICTBB supports national, cross-border and international connectivity through an extensive fibre network connecting major cities, regions, districts, border points, data centres and submarine cable landing points. The backbone enables the provision of services such as national capacity, IPLC, IP Transit, Layer 2 connectivity and other high-capacity solutions required by operators and strategic customers. As a critical national digital infrastructure, NICTBB strengthens Tanzania’s digital transformation, supports regional interconnection, improves route diversity and positions Tanzania as a strategic connectivity hub linking East, Central and Southern Africa.
